Check out hard water electric descaling claims very carefully

There are products on the market that claim to remove scale and reduce scaling by use of magnets or electric fields. The system involves essentially winding electric wires or magnets around the incoming water pipes and the claim is that the electrical field so produced interferes with the calcium salt molecular structure and prevents scale building up on the pipe walls and on kettle elements, heater elements in the central heating system and so on..

This may be so but before buying such devices do check out the claims carefully. I personally have problems understanding all the claim made by the sellers and manufacturers of these units. I certainly doubt the savings claimed and would like to see the factual evidence from numerous actual heating or electric bills to prove this.

Where financial and money saving claims to heating bills are made as a justification for the sale I would ask to see independent proof of such claims. If you have any lingering doubts then don't buy the product. Don't get me wrong here hard water and scaling on pipes and heating elements certainly reduces heat transfer efficiency ... so it takes longer for example to heat the same amount of water in a scaled system and this is where extra cost in incurred.

I am not decrying the need to soften water ... I am just somewhat skeptical of the electronic or magnetic device claims.
